Chapter 10
Last week, I and Scout were talking about him. We thought he was too old to achieve something that can make us feel pride of him. He is nearly fifty years old. Some of my classmates’ father must be less than forty years old. I am crazy about playing the football. He always do it with me, however, he never let me to tackle him because of his age. When I do feel like tackling him, he always says that he is too old. On the other hand, he is just a lawyer, but not a cool job such as driving a dump-truck for the country. What is more, he never does the recreational activities like hunting, playing poker, or drinking or smoking. Scout also complained about that Atticus never taught her about how to play the gun.
Nonetheless, this week, he was known by every in our school, in that he defended for Tom Robinson, a black person. Although everyone said a great number of bad about him, he asks us not to argue and fight with them.
But today, I saw Atticus shoot an old mad dog, which amazed me and Scout. He killed the dog with one shoot without glasses. No one can do it in our town. After that, I find that Atticus is good at shooting. And he was called one-shot Finch. But he never told that to me or Scout. Miss Maudie said that people in correct minds never take pride in their talents. Maybe this is the reason why Atticus never boasts about himself. And Scout wants to boast it in the school because not the entire father is a first-class shoot. I don’t think she should do like that, in that he is to tell others if Atticus feels like others know he is a dead shot.
I am firmly convinced that there are a lot of things I don’t know about Atticus.
